Toddy palm is a variety of palm tree that flourishes within the tropical latitudes of the world, most commonly in South and Southeast Asia, India and along the lush eastern coasts of Africa. Every component of this palm is used in some way by the people that plant and harvest them. Their trunks provide hard wood for construction, while their fronds are used as thatching or for weaving baskets. However, the toddy palm is most loved for its sweet brown sap and the delicious flesh within its seeds that, when fermented, form a potent brew referred to as palm wine.
